Primary Concerns

Esteemed chronologists, such as Kenneth Kitchen and Jack Finegan, reject these 479 years in favor of about 251 + 37 years from the exodus to the temple in preference to having sabbaticals 968, 961, 569, 562, 520, etc. BC. Those aligning with 1407 BC, 40 years after the exodus, allegedly 479 years before the temple were in 931, 868, 721, 623, 588, 574 and 539 BC.

A primary difficulty is illustrated in the following TABLE 10. It begs the question, how can six generations be stretched 479 years from the exodus to Solomon? Each generation would need to about 100 years each if there were 406 years from the exodus to David’s birth. This contradicts David’s statement that, normally, “The days of our years are threescore and ten (70)” (Psalms 90:10). In contrast, David died at age 70, and Solomon lived only about 56 years. Working backwards…

David, the youngest son of Jesse, was born in 1041 BC, 70 years before 971 BC.

David’s father, Jesse, was born in 1141 BC if he were 100 at David’s birth.

David’s grandfather, Obed, was born in 1241 BC if he were 100 at Jesse’s birth.

David’s great grandfather, Boaz, was born in 1341 BC if he were 100 at Obed’s birth.

David’s great-great grandfather, Salma, was born in 1441 BC if he were 100 at Boaz’s birth.

David’s great-great-great grandfather, Nahshon was Prince of Judah at the exodus, in 1447 BC – (Ex. 6:23; I Chr. 2:10).

1341

Birth of Boaz (Booz) who married Ruth the Moabite during the judges (perhaps after the Moabite oppression of Israel). Ruth preferred an older man, Boaz, over the younger men.

NOTE on TABLE 9: The 479-year system adds 228 years to the 251-year system. 968 BC, when the temple was founded, was 439 years after the Israelites crossed the Jordan in 1407 BC as in TABLE 10. Therefore, the sabbatical would be in 966 BC, 441 years after the Jordan. 966 is 245 years before 721 BC, when Assyria captured the Israelites of Samaria.
