1975 in Prophecy – the Origin of the 588–539 BC Jubilee Cycle

In contrast to having an exodus in 1255, there is evidence that the exodus was in 1447 BC, 479 years before the temple, as in TABLE 9. This would allegedly place the date of Creation in 3957 BC, and the end of 6,000 years would be in 2044 AD. Since 6,000 years is not divisible by 49; There is a surplus of three sabbaticals. Therefore, the last jubilee would be in 2022 AD 3,936 years after “Creation”, in the 122nd jubilee the sabbaticals of 1980, 1987, 1994, 2001, 2008 and 2015 AD.

Since we can find historical sabbaticals, which align with an exodus in 1255 BC, it is considered to be an established, legitimate cycle. Since we also have historical evidence of a cycle aligned with an entry into Canaan in 1407 BC, perhaps there are actually two exodus cycles, and we have been looking for just one exodus. More research is needed.

Fundamental Drawbacks

NOTE on TABLE 9: The 479-year system adds 228 years to the 251-year system. 968 BC, when the temple was founded, was 439 years after the Israelites crossed the Jordan in 1407 BC as in TABLE 10. Therefore, the sabbatical would be in 966 BC, 441 years after the Jordan. 966 is 245 years before 721 BC, when Assyria captured the Israelites of Samaria.

This work exposes various theories for the exodus before the temple (founded in 968 or 966 BC):

  1. 590 years, which would include both the 111 years of oppressions and 339 years of judges. This places the exodus in 1558 or 1556 BC.
  2. 479 years as in I Kings 6:1, which would include 339 years of judges and omit the 111 years. This places the exodus in 1447 or 1445 BC.
  3. 427 years instead of 479, which would restore the 427-year pattern from Adam to the fall of Babylon in 539 BC. The exodus would be in 1393 BC, 14 years after 1407 BC.
  4. 251 years, which would only include the 111 years of oppressions and omit the judges and several periods of rest. This places the exodus in 1219 or 1217 BC.
  5. 287 years (251 + 36), which places the exodus in 1255, 17 jubilees (833 yrs.) before 422 BC.

The major problem is in finding an historical, extra-biblical record of Egypt’s decline or economic collapse after suffering a great loss of farmers and builders, after experiencing the ten plagues, and being plundered by the Israelites and after losing an army in the Red sea. More research is needed.

Insights on the Samaritan Text

Like the Samaritan Text, the Book of Jubilees has 1307 years from Adam to the flood. If the Samaritan text had allowed 29 instead of 79 for Nahor (as in the Masoretic text) and 130 years instead 70 years between Abraham and his father (as in the Masoretic text), there would have been 251 x 9 years instead of 251 x 8 years from Adam to Abraham.

The Samaritan legend has 2753 years from Adam to the exodus in 1682 BC, 427 years before 1255 BC.

From the above chart, obviously the original Samaritan text could have been 401 years longer than the text extant today and the Masoreh text could have been 52 years longer than today’s renditions of it. Methuselah lived until the year of the flood, so his 67-years had to be changed to 168. 1055 (After Man) + 653 = 1708.

The Samaritan text also has a 251-year pattern in that a flood in 1307 would be 251 years after Noah’s birth in 1056 in the Masoretic text. The birth of Abraham would be in 2259 (251 x 9) if the flood were in 1307, and Joseph would be born in 2510 (251 x 10), and the exodus would be in 2761 (251 x 11). However, it is generally believed that the Samaritan exodus was 505, instead of 502, years after Abraham. This places Joshua’s conquest 2794 years after Adam (2259 to Abraham + 505 to exodus + 40 to Joshua = 2794).

Others have dated the exodus as 505 years after Abraham, that is, 2513 years after Adam. In comparison, a version of the Septuagint has the flood 2262 years after Adam. 2513 minus 2262 equals 251.
